Kids And Parenting

Parenting is an issue which very often polarises opinions between people. Kids and Parenting is a complex and emotive area of which much time and research has been undertaken in order to explore the many issues related to it. Parenting is a human activity which is concerned with bringing up of children.

The aim is socialisation and education over a period of years – usually the end of adolescence, so that the child becomes an active and responsible member of society. This is usually undertaken by two parents: conventionally, a man and woman, though this can now include parents of the same sex. Other types of parenting include those done by foster carers and care homes, and single parent families.

The aim of parenting is to nurture the child on their journey to adulthood, in a variety of areas such as physical and emotional wellbeing, education, moral values and relationships with others. This process is undertaken in many different ways which ranges from an emphasis on discipline and firmness through to an easy going and relaxed approach. There are positives and negatives related to any of these methods which can often cause conflicts between people as to what constitutes the best way of bringing up children. Traditionally, raising a child was seen as a woman’s primary role, though this attitude is changing due to increased participation of women in the workplace. As a result of this, more and more fathers are taking an active part in parenting though the majority of work related to this is still done by women.
